What is WelnU?
WelnU is an organization entirely run by volunteers who provides Dutch language lessons for refugees. We believe that integration should start on the first day, and that’s not possible without language and social interactions People of all nationalities, with different backgrounds and levels, from illiterates to the ones who are already reasonably good at Dutch, get Dutch lessons from volunteers in small groups at WelnU. We work with a large number of volunteers. As a result of this, our lessons are personal and students can express their difficulties regarding Dutch easily. With our extensive lesson material and other resources students progress fast. From the beginning of 2015 we have been active in Utrecht. Firstly with language lessons in de former emergency shelter and now at a numbure of places throughout Utrecht. Starting 2019 we are also starting the language lessons in Rotterdam in de Kaapse Maria with a new team and in Amsterdam in the Wereldhuis.
Which language lessons are there?
During our lessons you can start in several ways. It is possible to focus for instance with groups on expanding your vocabulary, learn about sentence structure or Dutch grammar rules by writing a lot, or develop your verbal skills by talking intensively with the volunteers.
Goal
The goal of WelnU is to provide everybody who has the desire to learn Dutch with language lessons. We believe that everybody has the right to develop in the country where they live. This is not possible without contact with the people around you. Therefore, we help everybody who needs help with learning the Dutch language, and with that making the first steps towards integration in Dutch society.
